Most landscapers, homeowners, and city planners don't really under the trophic responses, needs, and ecological consequences of the plants that they put in yards. It's why we have so many invasive species, and trees that die after 25~ years. Why plant redbud when you can plant a billion crape myrtles? Why plant azalea when Nandina grows so much faster? Why use a native shrub for hedges when you can plant Asiatic privet and have it take over the entire east coast? I would agree it looks like the soil is really compacted below the topsoil layer, but that looks like a really large and probably mature tree and probably won't recover from that kind of damage to the root system. I would think it would be better to just amend the soil and replant, either way. I'm not an arborist though.

I moved here for my now wife and seeing the way people act has got me wishing to go back to Europe. I loved it here before people started showing blind faith in someone so wrong so often. I swear so many people I thought were good people have shown me just how little they care for anyone other than themselves. I dunno, I think everyone should be raised to be like that in a sense, granted I think people should be able to ask for help if they need it. I don't think it is healthy to suffer a tragedy and break when you could be trying to make things better.bI am not implying that people shouldn't feel emotions, nor should they bury them, but you can feel pain and sadness and try to be a useful human at the same time. If you go overseas they are also likely sniffing for cash. I’ve seen a few of them and have even been a plant for one while they were training it while getting on a plane. You're right, Customs has a lot of various detector dogs for the various products that can be brought into the country, beyond just their cash dogs and drug dogs. They also have a surprisingly high number of dogs that sniff for animal and plant smuggling (both live specimens and products derived from them), which I think are my favorite. I love picturing a dog just having his job be to look for fruits and veg and such. The hardest thing I've ever done was not pat that little dog in its vest.
