Dogs are basically spectroscopes + ML, if you think of it :) I do agree though that more research needs to be done on what the dog is smelling and if it's unique to COVID or not. False negatives would probably be the bigger issue here. One of the theories of the origins of kissing (there are many), is that it started from smelling your potential mate to see if they are sick. If they’re severely sick, you can smell it. I would think these dogs are smelling the different scents that sick people give off, as opposed to the actual virus particles. That's a really interesting take. My theory when I was a teenager was that it was a sign that you trusted that the other was not sick.
