My Dad told me a story about a bush pilot who was flying a guy in to do some science thing in the backwoods of Alaska. As the pilot is loading the plane he notices the guy has no weapons. The guy says he's not really comfortable with guns. The pilot told him there were bear out there but the guy was willing to take his chances. Finally, the pilot convinced him to at least bring a can of bear repellent. So the pilot lands and unloads the guy by a small cabin onshore, says goodbye, and heads off. As he's leaving he makes a pass over the cabin he sees the dude rolling on the ground and thrashing all over the place. Thinking the guy is having a seizure he hurriedly pilot lands the plane and taxis to shore.

Another strange tale from the arctic regions: Many years ago my dad was working on an engineering project in Kangerlussuaq - the location of Greenland's biggest airport. Since hotel accommodation was limited he was staying at the US Air Base Sodrestrom next to the airport. The first night he was there someone at the base invited him to the bar on the base. It was only a short walk, but the guy insisted they drove. After some pretty heavy drinking, my dad expected them to walk back, but the locals insisted on taking the car. Just as they got into the car, military police showed up and asked what they were doing. Same. Although I didn’t get to do much gaming during my treatments... my chemo and immunotherapy regimen required Benadryl so I slept during a good portion of my treatment time. I guess it’s just not something that I ever really thought about before, but it’s really cool to know there are so many other people out there like myself that have gone through this and bond over gaming. If I remember correctly it’s a reference to the founding myth of Rome. There’s a response where the wishes say “kill it” or something to that effect. The right answer is “thanks” it recalls the mother wolf who keeps her child safe with her mouth.
